Old Kings of Lao PDR

Lao PDR has never had kings since its establishment as a republic in 1975. Prior to that, Laos was a constitutional monarchy with a succession of kings.

very interesting to see the number of Kings to our knowledge today, what was before that should also be a very interesting topic.

Here is a list of the past kings of Laos:

1. Fa Ngum (14th century)
2. Oun Heuan (14th century)
3. Samsenthai (1373–1416)
4. Lan Kham Deng (1416–1428)
5. Khamtamai (1428–1438)
6. Souvanna Khamphong (1438–1479)
7. Xieng Gwaang (1479–1485)
8. Chakkaphat Phaen Phaeo (1485–1495)
9. Visoun (1495–1520)
10. Photisarath (1520–1548)
11. Setthathirath (1548–1571; 1573–1574)
12. Sen Soulintha (1571–1573; 1600–1603)
13. Nokeo Koummane (1574–1575)
14. Voravongsa I (1637–1694)
15. Ong Kham (1694–1707)
16. Kitsarat (1707–1713)
17. Inthasom (1713–1723)
18. Somphou (1723–1749)
19. Oun Kham (1749–1767)
20. Sotika Khamphoui (1767–1779)
21. Souligna Vongsa (1779–1781)
22. Inthavongsa (1781–1795)
23. Anouvong (1805–1828)

It is worth noting that the last king of Laos, Anouvong, was deposed in 1828 by the Siamese (now Thailand) and spent the rest of his life in captivity. The monarchy was briefly restored in 1945 but was abolished again in 1975 when the communist government took power.
