Green Season in Laos turns streams into raging rivers and rapids, perfect for kayaking. And Green Discovery Laos (GDL), in their endless search for new adventures, has found a winner…the Houay Bang Lieng River that cuts through the jungle of Dong Hua Sao National Protected Area in Champassak.

The full-day tour includes 4.5 to 5 hours kayaking or rafting through thick forests and past plunging waterfalls while navigating batches of easy-to-moderate rapids. As river levels rely on the rain, GDL only offers this tour from June to December.
The day kicks off with a short tuk-tuk ride from Pakse to Ban Lak 11 Village and a downhill walk to the river. After basic instructions, paddlers are off into the jungle. Kayakers ramble over class 2 to 3 rapids before reaching a waterfall that launch into the river.

The river rage continues until a picnic lunch opposite a waterfall exploding out of the deep jungle. After lunch and relaxation, it’s back in the boat for another two hours through the jungle and past locals catching fish.

The trip ends in the late afternoon in a patch of jungle and the ride back to Pakse in the early evening.
