According to Vientiane Times, Lao Mixay Construction Company won the bid to upgrade the embankment at a cost of US$4.5 million. The riverbank will include a public park, concrete road, trees, and facilities such as restaurants, shops and a planned night market. Completion is scheduled for June 2021.

The upgrade, with support from the Asian Development Bank, is part of a larger infrastructure project to develop the East-West Economic Corridor.

Deputy Governor of Savannakhet province, Mr Thonekeo Phoutthakayalath, urged the project developer and construction company to ensure a high quality of work and completion as planned.

The Deputy Governor also called for local authorities to facilitate construction and push for the speedy progress of the project.
