TaiBaan Crafts
Opened in 2011 as Saoban, the recently rebranded TaiBaan supports diverse ethnicities from more than 15 village crafts groups across 10 Lao provinces. When you buy from TaiBaan Crafts, a World Fair Trade Organization member, you provide employment and training for the artisans, and the profits stay in the village. At TaiBaan’s Vientiane shop, you’ll find more than 70 different items made from silk, cotton, bamboo, hemp, silver, and recycled bomb shrapnel. The product range features bags and baskets, clothing and accessories, items for the home, and textiles and fabric. Mail order purchases are available.
The Weaving Sisters
We are Katu people from Salavan province and have years of weaving experience. We started our business in 2015 after working in Luang Prabang for a few years. Traditionally, Katu weaving has specific colour scheme, but we have adopted a wider choice of colours to suit customer preferences. As back-strap weavers, we can work anywhere, because each of us is the loom. We also sell items like jungle vine bags made by different ethnic groups, who live in more remote areas and who have few visiting buyers.

Luang Prabang Deaf & Mute Community Handicraft Shop
Visit the Luang Prabang Deaf & Mute Community Handicraft Shop, located near the bowling alley on the road from the stadium, watch the residents weave and farm, and purchase their products. The Sisters of Charity opened the school to teach professional skills, such as traditional Lao weaving and sewing, to the deaf and mutes so they can become autonomous. Stop by in the afternoon when they are producing bags, shirts, scarfs, carpets and other fabrics you can buy in their shop, which helps support the school. While there, inspect their garden sprouting organic vegetables, herbs, and mushrooms, and see their pigs, poultry, and fish pond.
