Ma Té Sai, known for its innovative and useful crafts created by local women artisans, is forging ahead into 2019 with new colours, a new location, more Singapore events, and a tour to the Muang Sing Festival in November.
New Colours & Patterns
Trend setters have named “Living Coral” as this year’s Pantone colour. To stay ahead of the curve, Ma Té Sai worked with their Tai Lue friends in Oudomxay Province last July to come out with a new range of cotton scarves, hand towels, throws, and blankets in stripes, checks, and ombres.
Now, their looms are pumping out a steady stream of products offering a fresh new taste to the old favourite, luxe cotton. These items are available at Ma Té Sai Luang Prabang and The Green Collective, Singapore.
New Home in Singapore
Ma Té Sai has found a permanent home in Singapore amongst like-minded company at The Green Collective, who offers a unique shopping experience of eco-friendly and sustainable brands covering a wide range of items. Located in the Kinex Mall, The Green Collective is a short walk from the Paya Lebar MRT, and also host workshops and talks.
Other Events in Singapore & Vientiane
Ma Té Sai will exhibit at the Citibank International Women’s Day Bazaar at The Cube, Asia Square on 11 March, as well as at the Sustainable Easter Fair on 20 April at Winestones, Mercure on Stevens, where we’ll be showcasing some of our summer ready-to-wear and new homewares. In Vientiane, Ma Té Sai will be at the Waku Waku Thoun Thieng Market #2 on 16 March.
Muang Sing Festival
Ma Té Sai has frequently visited Muang Sing in Luang Namtha Province, and has noticed it is becoming more difficult to see their traditional costumes. However, they get all dressed up for the Tat Xieng Teung Festival in November, and Ma Té Sai is organizing a week-long trip to the event ex-Luang Prabang. The 7-day/6-night trip runs from 8-15 November, and includes the event and an introduction to Ma Té Sai’s family of Northern Laos artisans.
