It is also quite simple to get to Sekong by bus from other Southern Lao destinations, Vientiane, and Central Laos. Accommodation options are limited to Lamam and Thateng Districts including Sekong Town, and aside from hotels, dining mostly centres on local food at noodle shops.

As Sekong has no airport, many visitors fly first to Pakse, or arrive from neighbours Attapeu and Salavan Provinces. From Pakse, public buses depart for the 139-km drive to Sekong Town throughout the day. Morning busses depart Salavan Town, 86 km away, and from Attapeu Town for the 78-km drive. You can also rent motorcycles in Pakse for the journey.

Three busses to Sekong Town depart daily from Vientiane’s Southern Bus Terminal at 16:30, with prices ranging from LAK130,000-210,000, depending on the choice of local, express, or VIP sleeper coach. Destinations in central Laos also offer bus service. Coaches depart in the morning from Bolikhamxay (644 km), Khammouane (461 km), and Savannakhet (386 km) with prices depending on distance and coach class. It is possible to hire tuk tuks and song taews (Pickup trucks with benches) for a 1-way trip or for the day. Head to the district bus stations to negotiate with local drivers, or ask your hotel or guesthouse if they can arrange transportation.

Sekong Province offers limited accommodation. Daily rates for clean and comfortable guesthouses tend to hover around LAK80,000-120,000, while the best hotel rooms can fetch upwards to LAK1,600,000 with choices to suit most needs.
