Getting to Sayabouly

You can catch overland transportation to the province from several Lao destinations as well as Thailand. Mekong riverboats also cruise to a few Sayabouly landings.

Getting to Sayabouly

 

Local busses depart Vientiane for Sayabouly Town via Paklay at 08:00 and 09:00 (LAK90,000-110,000), and VIP sleeper busses leave the capital at 16:00 and 18:00 (LAK130,000-150,000) via Luang Prabang. Local busses head to Sayabouly from Luang Prabang at 09:00, 14:00, and 17:00 (LAK60,000), and minivan service can be booked at local travel agents. Minivan transport is also available in Xieng Khouang Province, with a 09:00 departure for LAK130,000.

A bus leaves from Loei, Thailand, for Sayabouly Town at 08:00 (LAK125,000), with a brief border stop at both sides of the Nam Heuang Bridge. Visas on arrival are available at the at Phanhkeo checkpoint. You can also cross into Ngeun District from Thailand’s Nan Province with visas on arrival. 

You can reach Tha Souang landing in Hongsa District via Mekong riverboat from Pakbeng (LAK30,000). Check with travel agents or at the pier for departure times. Throughout the year, major Mekong cruise lines offer itineraries between Vientiane and Luang Prabang, which stop at Sayabouly and Paklay.

There are currently no flights to Sayabouly.
