Getting to Savannakhet

 

Lao Airlines offers 5 weekly flights – Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday – to Savannakhet International Airport departing Vientiane at 08:10 with a stop in Pakse. The carrier also offers direct flights from Bangkok on the same days, with departures at 13:40.   

Six local/express busses to Savannakhet depart daily from Vientiane’s Southern Bus Terminal throughout the morning (LAK90,000), with a VIP sleeper bus leaving at 20:00 (LAK120,000). The trip takes about 8-9 hours. Busses are also available from Pakse and Khamouanne. 

From Thailand, busses depart from the Mukdahan bus station throughout the day, with a short stop at the border check points, before continuing to Savannakhet Town. Busses are also available at the border for the ride over the bridge to Lao immigration. Coaches are occasionally available from various Vietnamese destinations, while the Lao Bao border has busses for the 5-hour trip to Savannakhet
