Several modes of transportation connect tourists between their accommodation and Luang Prabang’s attractions. An official counter at the airport offers rides (LAK100,000) in modern vehicles to your hotel or guesthouse. Most hotels and resorts have a shuttle service to and from the airport as well as the Central Tourist District. Guesthouses can also arrange transportation to the airport. The e-Bus Red Line goes to and from the airport.
Tuk tuks and sawng taews (Pickup trucks with benches) are readily available throughout town for rides to accommodation and attractions. Many gather along the river for travel to outlying areas. Hotels, guesthouses, and tour agents can arrange private taxis and vans for the day or one way. You can rent a motorbike or bicycle in the central tourist district.
Boat cruises are a popular way to get to attractions. You can hire a charter, sign up for a luxury cruise or hop on a public or private vessel.
The e-Bus
Luang Prabang has close to 15 e-Busses (electronic tuk tuks) that follow three routes to provide a carbon-free way to get around the UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can board them at specified stations or wave one down, and the fare is generally less than conventional tuk tuks.
The Red Line goes from the main e-Bus Terminal at the National Stadium to the airport. The line follows Route 13 to the airport turnoff and on to the passenger drop-off area. The Red Line operates on the hour from 07:00 to 19:00.
The Yellow Line runs a loop from the National Stadium to the Central Tourist District, and passes many of the city’s hotels and guesthouses. The route operates every 10 minutes from 07:30 to 17:50.
The Green Line takes in the “The Peninsula” and Central Tourist District. It operates every 15 minutes from 07:00 to 17:45.
To The train Station:
Luang Prabang is now part of the Lao China Railway system and one of the major stops is Luang Prabang, to enjoy the UNESCO World Heritage City.
Tuk tuks or private Taxi service, van services to and from the station are available to bring you to the station, please book in advance and give ample time to arrive at the station.
