Brunei Film Screened in Laos’ Pause Festival

By James Kon  Bruneian filmmaker, Abdul Zainidi recently attended the Pause Festival in Luang Prabang, Laos, and screened one of his best works, “Anggur in Pockland”. The festival invited filmmakers from all over ASEAN to present their films to the Lao people. The objective is to promote art and culture to the people. In an interview, Zainidi said, “The public found the film strange but refreshingly different and it allowed people a glimpse into Bruneian life albeit with an odd perspective. The film is about magical grapes and profiles of unemployed desperate people looking for meaning in life and eventually escaping into Pockland. “I was also selected to come to Luang Prabang last year as an American film showcase alumni and Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI). I fell in love with this town: My movie is about escaping into a magical world Pockland and for me Luang prabang is magical. To be invited and able to share Brunei through my film is meaningful.” Source: Borneo Bulletin Online
