Xe Champhone Loop offers a lot of activities to be discovered and incredible wildlife. It is a perfect family trip for a weekend out of Savannakhet city or if you want to take your time on the road between Pakse and Thakhek.
The road from Lak 35 to Ban Nakhou is not good and will take about 20minutes. Turn left in Ban Nakhou onto a good road that leads you to That Kou, Wat Phoukor (on your left; look for the signboard with the monkeys), and Soui Lake where you can have lunch and relax. Continue to Monkey Forest (turn right to Ban Dongmouang) and finally to Wat Nonglamchan.
You can go to Kengkok driving through the rice fields and reservoirs offering beautiful views (dotted line on the map) to spend the night in a nice guesthouse.
For your second day, you can go to Taleo Old Temple on the road to Xonnabouly district, then continue to Turtle Lake, and finish your trip in Ban Tansoum where you can see baby crocodiles at the main temple. If you have more time, you can also visit the Eld’s Deer Sanctuary in Xonnabouly district.
