Lao Airlines offers daily flights from Vientiane to Luang Namtha at 14:30 for the 1-hour flight, and Lao Skyway offers daily flights at 14:50.

A bus departs daily from Vientiane Capital’s Northern Bus Terminal for Luang Namtha in the morning (LAK140,000) for the 22-hour trip. Two busses depart Oudomxay (LAK40,000) and Houay Xay (LAK65,000) in the morning and mid-day for the 3-hour and 4-hour trip respectively. A morning bus leaves Luang Prabang (LAK70,000) for an 8-hour ride, and a morning bus departs Muangla (LAK45,000) in Yunnan, China, for the 2-hour drive.

A 2-day river journey up the Namtha River from Houay Xay to Luang Namtha is also available. Check with local travel agents and boat operators in Houay Xay for the schedule and price.
