Getting around Champasak

When it comes to getting around Champasak, take your pick from plenty of options.

Public busses take you to district centres from Pakse’s two bus stations 2-3-times a day. A 07:30 bus departs the Dao Heung Market for Champasak Town at 10:00, 11:00, and 12:00 for LAK20,000. Busses for Don Khong and Don Khone leave from the Southern Bus Station at around 09:00 and 15:30 for LAK50,000-55,000 and to Paksong at 08:30, 09:30, and 12:30 for LAK20,000. Song taews (Pickup trucks with benches) depart from Pakse and the district centres to other main towns, mostly in the morning.

It is possible to hire song taews and tuk tuks for a one-way trip or for the day. Head to the district bus stations to negotiate with local drivers, or ask your hotel or guesthouse to arrange a vehicle. You can also book minivan transport between destinations at travel agents, or climb aboard a Mekong River luxury cruise. Plenty of tour operators offer itineraries throughout the province.

Independent travellers can rent bicycles at major tourism hubs for long or short journeys. Rental cars (with driver) and motorcycles are also available in Pakse for touring the province.

Note: Bus and song taew schedules and prices are subject to change. Please check before departing.
